a light fantastic

and fantastic it is! colt has a materials class this term. for one of his projects he decided to make a light table. i have always wondered how any of these kinds of things are built. it was amazing to see colt create this beautiful table. he made the box, spun the wood on a lathe, stained and painted the legs, wired the electrical, sanded the acrylic, then tada........a light table. it is really cool looking and worth the house smelling like home depot for a week.

painting easter eggs and swatches

easter away from home......not easy. thank goodness for the carters! they are our family here in the great state of california. i don't know how i would have been able to make the move without knowing they were down the 605. so we had a great weekend together, in fact it couldn't have been better! the sun shone and we enjoyed the 80 degree weather. we went into pasadena and spent a little money at the largest forever 21 in the world. (just imagine the chaos) we had our favorite frozen treat...."frogo," we call it. i am pretty sure we made it up though. it's hard with the language barrier's around these parts to really know what anything is called. we had a nummy BBQ on the veranda. the food was delicious! ladies, i am telling you the way to get a man to cook is a $19.99 grill from walmart. and what is easter without a little friendly easter egg dying competition?

the painting continues with colton.......it probably always will. for one of his classes he has to paint all of these swatches in different hues. how hard could that be? apparently hard. i tried to help but wasn't even capable of that. it has taken him hours. mixing just the right amount of blue, red, orange.....today he dressed according to the next shade on the swatch train.

the homemade headboard

what a gift to have a domestic husband! i have always felt bad that i don't enjoy cooking, scrapbooking, or making wooden signs. the thought of sowing on a button gives me anxiety. in fact before i moved to california i made my mom give me a lesson, we practiced on rags. (what would i do without her!) the truth is this blog would not even be in effect if it weren't for colt, it is just too much for the uncreative tara to handle. so when i had my credit card out ready to buy a new bed (spending money, something I am good at) colton told me he would just make me a headboard. well, this isn't the first time colton has told me to not buy something that he could just make. the phrase "i could make that" is heard quite often in anthropologie when i pull out a lovely little skirt or sweater. i have yet to have colton hand make me a beautiful embroidered blouse, but he did do the headboard and it looks pretty swanky.
p.s. i wanted some black and white pillow cases made, i sent the fabric home last week for the other domestic person in my life to sow-calli

my man, the worker bee

thank goodness that colton's study habits have changed since high school! i don't think this art center place would put up with it. they sure know how to work somebody. colt gets up at 7:00 a.m. and then gets home twelve hours later to have a quick bite to eat, then he starts working on his projects again. he is usually up until two or three in the morning. but, he still loves it! he is doing really well. i am just beaming with pride when i retire to my bed at 10:30. he is probably glad i go to bed because i miss him so much during the day that when he gets back me and moby don't leave him alone. i snapped a few quick pictures of one of his projects, he wrote those words by hand! he is also doing a project on street art, so i thought i would document the process. and then i just threw in a little pic of moe's new bed. my boys are so darn cute!
